What is Confirmation All About?

By the time you are finished with the process, you will be able to do the following things:

  • Be baptized or confirm your baptismal vows

  • Declare your faith.

  • Become a responsible member of the church.

Becoming a responsible member of the church means more than just coming to church on Sunday.  There are nine marks of membership that you will learn about throughout the year.  A church member knows how to . . .

1.      Pray and study scripture

2.      Take part in the worship of the church

You will learn about these during the January retreat.

Members also know how to . . .

3.    Participate in the overall work and mission of the church

4.    Proclaim the Good News

5.    Work in the world for peace, justice, and freedom and also live responsibly in all relationships

6.      Demonstrate a new quality of life within an through the church.

You will learn about these on Sunday evenings in January and February.

There will be special required sessions on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for you to learn the following two marks of membership:

7.      Participate in the governing responsibilities of the church

8.      Support the work of the church with money, time, and talents.

And finally, you will be given the opportunity to participate in service projects during the fall and winter.  This is in response to the ninth mark of membership:

9.      Respond to God’s activity in the world through service to others.
