Christopher Edmonston - Pastor

Christopher Edmonston

Pastor

Christopher Edmonston began ministry at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in September of 2011. His primary responsibilities are preaching, teaching, pastoral care, membership development, staff development, and long term planning. Christopher has moderated Presbytery Committees, serves on the Montreat Retreat Association Board, and has served as the President of the Board of the Presbyterian Outlook. He is a contributor to Feasting on the Gospels and is a former member of the national strategy team and current member of the national advisory team for NEXT Church, a renewal movement within the Presbyterian Church (USA). He was recognized as a William Friday Fellow (2011-13). Christopher is a graduate of Davidson College, Union Presbyterian Seminary (Master of Divinity), and Columbia Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry). A semi-frequent contributor to blogs and publications such as the Presbyterian Outlook and Duke Divinity School’s Faith and Leadership Blog, he has preached and taught all over the southeast, frequently leading church retreats and lending his voice to conferences.

He is married to Colleen Camaione-Edmonston, who is a 7th grade grammar and literature teacher at St. Timothy's School in Raleigh. They have three children, Patrick, Gabriel, and Amelia, ranging from eighth grade to third grade, all three of whom attend St. Timothy's as well.

Tracey Daniel

Associate Pastor for Christian Education

In her role as Associate Pastor for Christian Education, Tracey is primarily responsible for providing leadership for Christian educational opportunities. She enjoys teaching, offering pastoral care, planning educational and fellowship events and leading worship.

She received her theological education at San Francisco Theological Seminary and Duke Divinity School. Before joining the staff of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in 2005, Tracey was Director of Christian Education at an area church. She began her career as a public school teacher after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Tracey is married to Dan Daniel and they have five young adult children. In her free time, Tracey enjoys biking, reading and baking.

James Fenwick - Pastoral Resident for Congregational Care

James Fenwick

Pastoral Resident for Congregational Care

As the Pastoral Resident for Congregational Care, James works primarily with White Memorial's Young Adults group, helping to provide education, fellowship, and service opportunities for the "20 and 30-somethings" in our midst. He also shares in general worship and pastoral care responsibilities at WMPC.

James is a Middle Tennessean by birth, but he has called Durham home since moving there in 2010. He is the proud husband to Jennifer. Together, they enjoy sharing meals with friends, cycling the American Tobacco Trail, cheering on the Durham Bulls, and exploring the banks of the Eno River. James is determined that few things nurture Christian community more than eating together and that making time for table fellowship generates spaces for the Holy Spirit to work. In other words, he’ll rarely turn down an opportunity for coffee or a meal with you.

Associate Pastor for Administration and Outreach

Gary has been at White Memorial since January 1, 1998. He has primary responsibility for the administrative and financial operations of the church, and provides leadership for the church in planning, organizing, and coordinating community outreach and world-wide mission efforts. He holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary.

Gary is married to Jane. They have three grown children, Jeff, Laura, and Carol. Gary enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and is an avid runner. He has completed several marathons and half marathons.

Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care

Lisa has served White Memorial since November, 2005. Her primary responsibilities are in Pastoral Care and related programs. Lisa holds both Master of Divinity and Master of Theology Degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Lisa is married to Rene; their son Benjamin is a sixth grader. Beyond ministry and family, Lisa also enjoys sewing and needlework, paper crafts, reading and travel.

Gloria Johnson

Associate Pastor for Community Ministry

Gloria has been at White Memorial since September 1, 1993. Her undergraduate degree is from Meredith College in Religion/Sociology/Social Work. She holds a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology degree from Duke Divinity School. Gloria is married to Jerry, and they have three grown sons and two grandsons. She enjoys travel, and volunteer work in the community.

Gloria has the primary responsibility for Presbyterian Women, community outreach, agency grants, and congregational service projects. She enjoys teaching a variety of Bible studies.

Judy Pidcock

Parish Associate for Senior Adult Ministry

Judy joined the staff of White Memorial as a Parish Associate for Senior Adult Ministry in February, 2013. She was ordained in 1987 and has served congregations in Columbus, Ohio, and Rochester, New York. Her areas of ministry experience include worship and preaching, adult education, pastoral care and visitation, membership, and congregational life. Judy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Duke University and her Master of Divinity degree from Yale University.

Judy moved to the Raleigh area in 2004 with her husband, Jim Peterson, and their two sons, Graeme and Neil Peterson, who are in college. Her interests include traveling, reading, and cooking.

Associate Pastor for Youth and their Families

Chip began his ministry with White Memorial in April 2014. He has primary responsibility for the middle school and high school youth ministries and their families. Chip is excited about building relationships with these youth and parents, along with all members of the WMPC church family, walking alongside them in their faith journeys, and assisting them in discovering who and what God is calling them to be and do as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Chip earned an Associate Christian Educator Certificate from the PC(USA) and holds a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. He is married to Elissa and they have two children, Celia and Lily. Chip enjoys being outdoors, hanging out at the local coffee shop, and is a big Auburn sports fan.

Grier Richards

Associate Pastor for Discipleship

In her role as Associate Pastor for Discipleship, Grier is primarily responsible for nurturing, guiding and resourcing the various fellowship and prayer groups of the church, for offering worship leadership at the 11:00 a.m. OnPoint@1704 service, and for helping interested visitors and new members to connect with this community and find their home at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. Grier is excited about leading and sharing in ministry which is both relational and transformational.

Grier is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and of Princeton Theological Seminary. She has been published in PAUSE, a collection of 52 weeks of devotions from the popular devotional site d365.org, and has written curriculum and has served in various leadership positions for the Montreat Youth Conferences and the Presbyterian Youth Triennium.

Grier is married to Rich Richards, and they have one son, Olsen. In her free time, you will find Grier running trails, practicing yoga or keeping up on Tar Heel athletics.

Cynthia Baggett - Director of Weekday School

Cynthia Baggett

Director of Weekday School

Cynthia joined the staff as Weekday School Director on July 1, 2014. She is a former Weekday School student, teacher, and parent and longtime church member. Cynthia looks forward to continuing to provide a safe, nurturing environment for all the children as they learn about themselves and God's love.

Cynthia has Masters of Education degrees in Literacy Studies and Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support from UNC - Chapel Hill. She has taught various ages for the last 20 years, from preschool through middle school. Before joining the staff of White Memorial, she taught special education at the Trilogy School for 12 years.

Cynthia is married to Ward Baggett and has four children - Carlee, Wyatt, Laura Lilly, and Bo. In her free time, she enjoys reading, craft projects, playing with her children, and taking care of her six chickens. Her dream day would include the beach, a book, and a forbidden Coke!

Laura Boyd

Director of High School & College Ministry

Laura is the Director of High School and College Ministry. She is excited about bringing her many years of experience in working with adolescents and young adults in higher education and her clinical counseling practice to White Memorial. Laura holds a Master's Degree in Counselor Education, with a specialty in Student Development in Higher Education, has completed advanced course work in psychology from East Carolina University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Laura has worked as a Director of University Admissions, college academic advisor, college career counselor and in clinical mental health counseling.

Laura enjoys playing the guitar, reading and laughing. She married to her college sweetheart and has a one daughter, Abby-Kate.

Genevieve Brooks

Director of Middle School Ministry

Genevieve is the Director of Middle School Ministry. She oversees middle school programs, classes and trips; coordinates adult leaders who are called to work with sixth, seventh, and eighth graders; and, perhaps most importantly, provides support and care for our middle school students. Genevieve comes to us with considerable youth experience, including launching a Young Life program in Craven County, working as the Summer and Adventure Camp Coordinator at Camp Don Lee and most recently, serving as Associate Youth Director at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh.

Genevieve was baptized, raised and confirmed at Starmount Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. In the fall of 2013, she moved to Raleigh to marry her camp sweetheart, Alex. She loves Jesus, coffee, sailing, games and cat videos.

Colleen Aguirre

Office Manager

Colleen has been on staff since January of 1986. She handles the scheduling of church facilities, she maintains the office equipment and trains staff on its use, and she coordinates our office systems with support staff and others. She also coordinates the office volunteers, including our receptionists.

Colleen is married to her husband Ed and enjoys flower arranging, entertaining and spending time with her Australian Shepherds.

James started serving as Business Administrator at White Memorial in the fall of 2016. He is responsible for daily operations, budget management, risk management, stewardship coordination, insurance, and transportation. He began professional ministry when God called him away from the biotech industry to an operations position at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. Over 13 years he served in a variety of positions including Operations Coordinator for young adults, Business Administrator and Human Resources Director. Somewhere in the middle he spent 9 months in as a missionary in inner-city Chicago. In 2013 James was recruited to work as Executive Pastor at a non-denominational church in Birmingham, Alabama.

While serving in High School ministry in Menlo Park, James met his wife Susan. It only took him eighteen months to work up the courage to ask her out. Susan is currently in studies for a Masters in Theology from Duke Divinity School. They have three boys, Beckett is in 1st grade, Asher and Keats are in preschool. Most of his free time is spent bike riding with the boys. Occasionally he sees a movie, goes to the gym or reads up on current events.

Kirsten joined the White Memorial staff in May 2015. As Associate Director of Music, Kirsten shares responsibility for the music ministry along with the Director of Music. In addition to playing both the piano and organ during worship, Kirsten directs choral and instrumental ensembles, and accompanies a variety of soloists and groups.

Previously, Kirsten served churches in Indiana and Ohio in both organist and director of music roles. Kirsten has also taught piano and organ to students of all ages, and has performed both in the United States and abroad. She has a passion for ministering to people by sharing God's gift of music in fellowship and faith. Kirsten holds a B.M. in piano performance from Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory of Music, and a M.M. and D.M.A. in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Rich Richards - Associate Director of Music

Rich Richards

Associate Director of Music

Rich joined the White Memorial staff in February 2016. He is a multi-instrumentalist who is versed in classical, jazz and blues music with skills in arranging and composing. Rich holds bachelor and masters degrees in music and art history from The College of Wooster and the Cleveland Institute of Music with additional study at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. Rich has helped other churches develop new worship experiences for faith communities in New Jersey and North Carolina. He has served as a curriculum writer, keynote speaker and music leader for the broader church through leadership at the Montreat Conference Center, the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, the Presbyterian Church in Canada, the Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological and programs of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. In addition to serving churches in music, he has served other congregations in areas of fellowship, youth ministry, recreation and the creative arts.

Rich is married to Grier Booker Richards, who is Associate Pastor for Discipleship here at White Memorial. They have one child, Olsen who is six years old. Rich is an oarsman and also enjoys cooking, cycling, architecture and yoga.

After working on-site at WMPC for more than 16 years, Debra and her husband, Scott, moved to Carolina Beach, NC, in 2015, where Debra now works from home. They have two adult children, Annelise and Austin. In her spare time Debra enjoys exploring the Cape Fear region; reading on the beach; and spending time with her granddaughter, Wren, who conveniently lives just around the corner.

Lynn Springfield - Director of Elementary Ministry

Lynn Springfield

Director of Elementary Ministry

Lynn was called to this part-time position in September 1995. She holds a B.A. from Wake Forest University and a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia, both in Education. She also holds certification in teaching learning disabled children and academically gifted children.

The major way that Lynn encourages the faith development of children is by planning and resourcing Church School for grades 1 - 5. Lynn’s other areas of ministry include Vacation Church School, Midsummer Celebrations, Children in Worship Committee, Children’s Ministry Committee, Church School Council, 11:00 Children in Worship program, and coordinating artwork for worship bulletins. Her favorite way of interacting with our church's children is skating with them at Jellybeans.

Lynn and Mark have three young adult children: Jonathan, Anna, and Matthew. Lynn enjoys dancing and weekly walks with her friends. Her favorite get-away is snow-skiing with her family.

Agnes Vaglio - Director of Children’s Music

Director of Children’s Music

Agnes joined the White Memorial staff as Director of Children's Music in September 2006. She is coordinator for the Children’s Music Ministry which includes the Cherub, Carol, and Joyful Noise Choirs. Agnes is the director of the Joyful Noise Choir and is a member of the Chancel Choir. She also serves as a Church School music leader and assists with the summer Grandparent/Grandchild Day Camp.

Agnes earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Church Music from Meredith College and a Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Education from Butler University. She is a retired public school music teacher who enjoyed thirty-nine years of teaching. Twenty-nine of those years were in the Wake County Public School System.

Coordinator for Membership & Engaged Discipleship

Elizabeth handles new member inquiries, registers prospective members and facilitates Beginnings new member classes. Elizabeth also maintains the church membership records, updates information for the annual directory, prepares a monthly statistical report for the Session, and serves as a resource for linking members with ministry needs and volunteer opportunities.

Elizabeth joined White Memorial in 1992 and has been a staff member since October 2006. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Journalism. Elizabeth is married to Bob and they have six young adult children. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys tennis, reading, horse shows and is a sports radio enthusiast.

Director of Young Children's Ministry

Gwen began her call at White Memorial in December 1994 and would tell you the years of service have been a joy and a privilege. Gwen's focus is children ages 2 through kindergarten. During the week she can be found in W314 or the Luther building, communicating with parents, teachers, and colleagues, creating materials, designing educational space, planning workshops, children's worship experiences, and gathering resources for Church School. Sunday mornings are a highlight, when Gwen enjoys growing in faith and love with adults and children at White Memorial.

Gwen holds a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Miami University and a Master Degree in Educational Curriculum and Supervision, also from Miami University. Her current hobbies include swimming, biking, running, writing, wooden puzzle-making and travel. She is married to Andy Whiteman. Gwen and Andy have three grown children: daughter Allison and her husband Gavin, and son Andrew.

Jean Williams - Parish Nurse

Jean Williams

Parish Nurse

Jean began her call as the Parish Nurse in September 2015. This is a new position at White Memorial Presbyterian Church growing out of the Health Ministries Committee. She promotes holistic health in the congregation through one-on-one interaction, counseling, support through grief and suffering, advocacy, resources, referral and education.

Jean has been a member of WMPC for 29 years and has served on the Health Ministries Committee, co-chaired the blood drive and co-chaired the Bereavement Care Team. Jean has a Master of Science degree in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her nursing experience includes work at Rex Hospital, Wake Health Services, Kaiser Permanente, Whitaker Glen and Transitions Hospice.

Jean is married to Peter Williams and has two grown children, Martha and Woodie. In her spare time she enjoys tennis, reading and spending time with her family.

Karl Zinsmeister - Director of Music

Karl Zinsmeister

Director of Music

Karl joined the White Memorial staff in July 2007. As Director of Music, Karl provides worship leadership for the church. He is responsible for worship service planning and coordination, planning and coordinating all musical elements of worship including conducting choral and instrumental ensembles, and playing both the piano and organ during worship.

Previously, Karl held similar posts for churches in Cincinnati, Ohio; Greenwood, Mississippi; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. He has also served as an Instructor and a Conductor of Handbell Choirs for the faculties of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey; St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN; and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN. In addition to serving churches at the local level, Karl has participated in worship and theology committees at the Presbytery level and as a national board member for Presbyterian Association of Musicians. Karl loves the opportunity to combine interests in music, teaching, creative arts, nurture, and worship which results in ministry through music. He holds B.M. and M.M. degrees in church music from St. Olaf College and Westminster Choir College, respectively; and a D.A. in music education, choral emphasis from the University of Mississippi at Oxford.

Karl and Lora Z. live in Fairfax Hills where they enjoy gardening, cooking, and sharing southern hospitality.
