Interfaith Collaboration

Landy Anderton   -

WMPC members recently worked along side the Divan Turkish Center of Cary, NC for a Habitat House construction project. Pictured are some who participated.

WMPC’s Middle East Committee was initiated by Art Ross after 9-11, through his contacts with the Muslim and Jewish communities and through resulting Interfaith dinners at churches in the area. The committee was organized by member Don Munford, and Dan McConnell is currently Chairman.

Landy Anderton and Gloria Johnson recently met with Divan leaders to explore ways to collaborate. The Divan Center’s goals are to build connections with the Triangle community and give back to the community through service of all kinds. WMPC has joined in the past with our Divan Center Muslim friends through such activities as Interfaith Dialogue dinners, film screenings, Turkish cooking classes, Ladies Brunches and Teas, cultural festivals, Ramadan Iftar (end-of-the-day) meals, and trips to Turkey.

Possible future collaborations include joint participation at Soup Kitchens and the Raleigh Rescue Mission. We are also hoping to match WMPC members as mentors to members of the Divan Center who could use career guidance or assistance in this new country.

If you are interested in getting involved with these activities with our brothers and sisters in the Abrahamic community, please ask to be included on the Committee’s listserv at: demcconnell@bellsouth.net
